Bedford Stuyvesant Early Childhood Development Center – BSECDC (formerly known as Bed-Stuy Head Start) was conceived and launched in 1966 as part of the National War on Poverty Program. Bed-Stuy Head Start offered high quality, comprehensive developmental services to low-income families who resided within the Bedford Stuyvesant community. Bed-Stuy Head Start grew from one early childhood site in the basement of a church to ten sites strategically placed throughout the community. BSECDC now operates a full-day comprehensive program to 350 families at six locations throughout Bedford Stuyvesant.
